What you need to know

Are you eligible?

To apply for an HSBC Current Account, you'll need to:

Be at least 18 years old
Reside in Vietnam
Have a valid visa, visa equivalent document or visa exemption document if you are a foreigner residing in Vietnam

If you're a Personal Banking customer, you'll also need to:

Maintain a minimum credit balance of VND300,000 within 12 months of account opening
Maintain a minimum monthly average balance of VND3 million[@vnpbrequirements]
Have at least one debit transaction on the account within the last 24 months[@vnpbrequirements]

If you're a customer enrolled in the HSBC Payroll Offers, you'll also need to:

Have a monthly salary of VND10 million transferred to your account.

Frequently asked questions

According to the regulation on foreign exchange control issued by State Bank of Vietnam, Vietnamese citizens can only make overseas transfers for specific purposes, provided that the appropriate documents have been submitted. Some examples are:

Paying for your overseas education or medical treatment expenses or for your relatives
Going abroad for business or leisure
Payment of fees and charges to foreign parties overseas
Providing subsidies to overseas relatives
Remitting bequeathed money to an overseas inheritor
Going abroad for resettlement

We can only issue you a debit card if you currently have a VND account with us. Therefore, you'll need to open a VND account to get a debit card.

Your VND account will be linked to your debit card as the primary account and your existing foreign currency account will be the secondary account. Primary account (VND account) is the account from which spending transactions, cash withdrawals at ATMs, charges and fees related to the debit card are debited, while secondary account is only for cash withdrawals at ATMs.

An account with zero balance will be automatically closed after 6 months.

If there have been no debit transactions, we'll change the status of your account to:

'Dormant', after 24 months
'Unclaimed', after 36 months

To continue using your account, you'll need to reactivate it at one of our branches. Find the nearest branch for support.

According to Circular 15/2015/TT-NHNN, you can't transfer money between two different foreign currency accounts in your name.
